NEW BED AND BREAKFAST GUESTHOUSE, DELAYED BY STORM, OPENS ON GUNFLINT TRAIL

Grand  Marais, MN - Poplar Creek Guesthouse, the Gunflint Trail's newest bed and breakfast has opened for business.  Located thirty miles up the Gunflint Trail, from Grand Marais, Minnesota, the Guesthouse sits on a secluded hillside overlooking Poplar Creek and Little Ollie Lake. The Boundary Water (BWCA) wilderness borders the Guesthouse's property and is accessible by canoe or foot directly from the Guesthouse.

Construction originally planned for the fall of 1999 was delayed by the July 4 storm of that year. The storm toppled an estimated million trees in the Boundary Waters and along Gunflint Trail.  According to the Guesthouse owners, Barbara and Ted Young, "The storm took down many trees near where we planned to build. The area was a mess. It took us a year to clean up and replant. We finally started construction last fall. The work is now done. The cleaned-up site looks great and we think the new Guesthouse is beautiful."

Accommodation at the Guesthouse includes two large bed and breakfast bedrooms and a two room housekeeping suite. One bed and breakfast room has a whirlpool bath and queen bed. The other bed and breakfast room comes with two queen beds and double rain forest shower. Both share a lounge area with gas fireplace, kitchen/dining area and deck overlooking the lake and creek. The housekeeping suite has a bedroom with queen bed, a kitchen/dining area, living room with gas fireplace and deck. All rooms have private baths and phones with data ports.  Mission style furnishings are featured throughout the building.

Mountain biking, hiking and ski trails begin at the guesthouse front door. This new facility is brought to you by Boundary Country Trekking; a northern Minnesota based adventure vacation company. The company also operates the Little Ollie Lake Cabin and the Banadad yurts. In winter the Guesthouse and Cabin are exclusive ski retreats.  For additional information see the company's new web page at www.littleollielodging.com or call 800-322-8327. The lodging web pages also feature a vacancy calendar for both the Guesthouse and Cabin.
